Signage at McLain High School

The North Tulsa Task Force will present their recommendation for the McLain feeder pattern to the Board of Education.

One of our core beliefs at Tulsa Public Schools is that our community is essential and that our schools are vital to the heal of the communities we serve.

To continue to improve on this belief, Reverent M.C. Potter led a group of community members to help provide insight and vision for how Tulsa Public Schools can continue to improve student experiences. To do this, the Tulsa Board of Education created the North Tulsa Task Force.

The task force was initially asked to focus on where to educate 7th grade students, but they have done an even more thorough review of the design of the McLain feeder pattern.

The task force worked with community members to develop a recommendation for how to best serve our students in the coming year and beyond.

The North Tulsa Task Force used a set of guiding principles to create their recommendation:

  • All students must have access to exceptional learning experiences;
  • All students must have equitable opportunities to access specialized programs;
  • All teachers and school leaders must experience exceptional conditions at supports; and
  • Tulsa Public Schools must ensure fiscally responsible investments in educational programs and facilities.

After taking all of the into consideration, the North Tulsa Task Force will present their recommendation for the McLain feeder pattern to the Tulsa Board of Education on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. in the Selman Room at the Education Service Center.

The meeting is open to the public, but, if you can't make the meeting, you can watch it on Cox channel 20 or on the Tulsa Public Schools Facebook page.

Before the meeting, the North Tulsa Task Force will also hold an open community meeting on Monday, January 21, 2019, at 4:30 p.m. at Vernon AME Church at 311 N. Greenwood Ave.

In a letter to families, Superintendent Deborah Gist said, "The Tulsa Board of Education has not made any decisions about changes to schools in the McLain feeder pattern. The Board and I are looking forward to the North Tulsa Task Force's presentation about the best way in which our district can serve our 7th grade students, as well as other feedback they may have for us. Over the next month, we will work with the members of the task force, school leaders, and teachers to understand how potential changes could be implemented. We will keep you updated as we move forward in our continued work to ensure that every child has access to exceptional learning experiences."
