I.  Techniques for getting things done

Ignite

Ignite is a geek event in over 100 cities worldwide. At the events Ignite presenters share their personal and professional passions, using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds for a total of just five minutes.  Learn lots of things in very little time.  Get ideas and strategies in 5 minutes flat. Challenge yourself and students to present using this method.

Google Reader or iGoogle

Create your own "magazine" with Goggle Reader and iGoogle

  • Go to Google -- Click on More -- Click on Even More

  • Create an account with Google.

  • Use that same account to register for any/all of the options  

Note that Goggle Reader and iGoogle are designed for you to have a web page to send RSS feeds to of blogs and podcasts so that you can view them when you want to without clogging up your e-mail accounts.  See the link below to get started identifying blogs that can help you professionally.

II.  Certificates

How to create certificates in Publisher 2007:

  • Open Publisher.
  • From the left column, click Award Certificates.
  • Double click on the one you want to use.
  • Fill in the blanks.

 III.  Social Bookmarking
 Allows you to access your booksmarks from any computer.

There are many social bookmarking sites.  Only2clicks is my favorite right now because you have to organize your bookmarks as you go along.  You wind up with a different web page for each topic you have.  Here's my copyright page as of 12/14/2011. You don't have to download anything.  Your bookmarks are kept "in the cloud."  (That means online.)

IV.  Education Search Engine
The district no longer subscribes to Nettrekker.  Instead we will have WebSearch by Follett.  This will allow you to search and find what we have in the library as well as what is on the web (that an educator selected).

V.  Online Databases 
Access Directions:

  1. Go to home page on the web.
  2. Scroll down until you get to the small purple box. 
  3. Click on Online Databases.
  4. You will need to log in.  Students have the log in information.
  5. Click on Online Database.
  6. Explore to see what's available.

What are the Online Databases good for?

  • Research.
  • They are RELIABLE RESOURCES.  Require RELIABLE RESOURCES if you want to get RELIABLE INFORMATION.  Explore these.  See what you could use with your classes.
  • Online Databases often provide citations.

 

 

 

VI.  Safari Montage

What can you do with Safari Montage?

  • Remember, these are videos
  • Bookmark part of a video to show just that clip.
  • Make playlists for specific units.
  • Be sure to make playlists School Playlists so that you can access them at school and not just from the computer your created them with.
  • You will need a LCD projector to show these videos to your students.
