The library media program should reach and inspire every student and faculty member to purposely begin or continue down their personal roads of lifelong learning. This will include promoting independent reading and enabling each person to develop ethical and information- literate digital and global citizenship. Reading should be a social enterprise with individuals discussing and sharing what they have read with peers, friends, and across the generational community. The program should aid patrons in discovering that each information literacy skill can help them personally and academically in every subject area from the moment they acquire that skill through the rest of their lives. Patrons will physically, intellectually, and digitally access and use information provided by the school and district, often accessing that information and information from other sources beyond our monitoring, so it is essential that ethical use of information be a foundation of the library media program.
